Random Thoughts:

Thrillseeker, by ConcreteNature r0><><0rz my bo><><0rz.

Washingtonpost.com changed their online organization. Change sometimes annoys me. It took me five minutes to find the columnists, but I am happier now that I've gotten my dose of 'Dear Abby' and 'Tell Me About It.'

I want to own a house so that 'Monster House' can come in and make it interesting.

'Bullshit' is a damn fine show and should be watched by everyone. Concurrently, Penn & Teller kick ass and I'd love to go drinking with them. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever have the focus to ever have good slight of hand, but I can quietly envy them both and watch enraptured. Have I ever mentioned I love feats of physical dexterity?

My mom now knows a little l337sp34k. I remain amused.

I'm terribly tempted to make a godlore account and share it with [livejournal.com profile] seraphim_jaguar and [livejournal.com profile] thewronghands; three pantheons for the price of one! We are the evil triplicate.

I like this one (ganked from [livejournal.com profile] soulkry)

you are lightskyblue
#87CEFA

Your dominant hues are cyan and blue. You like people and enjoy making friends. You're conservative and like to make sure things make sense before you step into them, especially in relationships. You are curious but respected for your opinions by people who you sometimes wouldn't even suspect.

Your saturation level is medium - You're not the most decisive go-getter, but you can get a job done when it's required of you. You probably don't think the world can change for you and don't want to spend too much effort trying to force it.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

My friends are: berserkir (medium orchid - #BA55D3); chaobell (medium sea green - #3CB371); cheekyweebisom (cyan - #00FFFF); cheshire23 (cyan - #00FFFF); cowboy_r (khaki - #F0E68C); Pixiepilot (navajo white - #FFDEAD); soulkry (dark cyan - #008B8B). How accurate did people find this? I found it was fairly accurate of me, but only an aspect of me. I also think my results would have been very different if other people had filled it out for me; my view of myself is not, I think, terribly accurate.

I've been musing on my prejudices recently, mostly because one of the things I pride myself on is not having any, which means my shadow on this has to be huge. I present the ones I've thought of so far here, for your edification and amusement.

  • 1. SUV drivers: I am far, far, far more likely to think you're a jerk on the road if you are driving an SUV or other huge monstrosity. Double negative points if you're also talking on a cel phone. Soccer mom vans also piss me off.

  • 2. Bad spelling and grammar: As far as I'm concerned, if you're in public typing with bad grammar and spelling than it's the social equivalent of going outside without bathing and wearing week-old clothing; I don't want to be anywhere near you, and anything you say will automatically be more discounted than in other circumstances. I simply cannot understand why some people defend their right to look like morons in public because 'it's only livejournal.' Please have more respect for yourself than that! If you are spending time on something, it must be important to you. If you are a valuable human being, you will take the time to do it right; if you do not value yourself, then it will be only $whatever and you'll undermine your credibility and any hope of respect I had for you.

  • 3. People who whine a lot: I'm not saying don't talk about your problems, but at least have a proto-solution or be willing to think of one. Spewing out vast amounts of woe and torment is fine once and a while, but if every conversation or lj post you have includes something about how awful your life is, then STFU and fix the problems.

  • 4. People who reference $deity frequently: Odin knows I reference him on occasion, but the people who fall into a 'and then the spirit moved me,' or 'Jesus was with me, truly he was,' or 'the goddess was with me, I can tell' every five seconds really puts my gonads in a twist.

  • 5. Christians or Christian Charities asking for money: When I was younger, I was of the credulous sort and would occasionally send money off to a cause that I found engaging and important; most of these were Christian or quasi-Christian organizations, since they're the ones with the biggest charity-spread in the United States. On one occasion I discovered later only 25% of my money actually went to the people in need; in another I discovered the leader was sexually assaulting the children he had in his care; in a third I discovered the people were forcing conversions on those they helped. I'm just a leeeetle bit bitter. When I give money, now, I do a thorough check of the charity. Since I'm about as organized as a South American Jungle, I rarely give to charity anymore.

  • 6. Hispanic males: This is the only skin-tone prejudice I have noticed me having, and it's sexist too! I have only twice had good interactions with Hispanic males (Dennis and that nice guy on the bike); the majority of the time I have been 'complemented' via yells, oogled, and otherwise harassed. I don't like groups of Hispanic males all together.
