"You make me come...
"You make me complete...
"You make me completely miserable."

"She wore shadows, she wore shadows, she wore shadows, shadows and skin.
"She wore shadows, she wore shadows, nothing but shadows, shadows and skin."
-Wishful, much?
Food musings:
I'm on a Miso Soup kick right now; I especially enjoy it with carrots and mushrooms. I like pears a whole lot. My favorite meal is Veal Marsala, with Veal in Lemon sauce with capers as a close second. I like fruit and blue cheese on salad. I adore Port Wine cheese, and brie, and camenbert. I like eggs a lot, especially with sauces and additions. I like quiche, too, especially spinach quiche. I like tofu and vegetables in a brown sauce. I adore stews, and turkey with dressing and mashed potatoes. My favorite sandwich is havarti cheese, sprouts, spinach and tomato on toasted whole wheat bread with pepper. I'm insanely fond of lemongrass soup and anything with ginger in it, especially chicken with ginger sauce. I like lobster, but I can't eat too much of it. I also really like onions - with or without accompaniment. I have a secret yen for sushi, but half of it grosses me out. I like riceballs, but can only eat one or two at a sitting. Bourbon chicken is another one of my favorites, but I only once had some I really liked. I like veggies and meat wrapped in spinach tortillas with curry. I like lichees, especially with or in ice cream. I also like malt on my ice cream; my diet substitution is vanilla soy milk with malted milk and nutmeg. I'm a nut for chocolate and ice cream, and they're my two downfalls diet-wise. I make my own honey-mustard dressing, but it's too spicy for me to enjoy eating unless I'm in the right mood. I've had dates with honey on them and thought it was great fun, if insanely messy. I like homemade salsa and queso blanco with still-warm chips. I can't stand refried beans, but I adore taco meat with tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and sour cream; my secret passion is for Taco Bell's Chalupa Supremes. My standard ordered breakfast is a Metro Stop downstairs at the Central Park Deli (egg whites with American cheese on an onion bagel). My favorite donut is the French Cruller, with Blueberry cake a close second, and Boston Cremes fighting it out with that other kind of creme for third place.
Ginger tea is one of my favorites. but I can never find a kind that I really like; I think I'll finally give in and make it from real ginger. I can't stand flavoring in my water unless it also has bubbles, but the one time I had fresh barley water I adored it. I give in to getting chai almost every time; I prefer it spicy and with soy milk (to attempt to keep on the diet). I have yet to make it fresh, but the one time I had it fresh I was in heaven. The first time I had Chai it was 1AM in California in a mountainous outdoor retreat when I was at a Rave. Mulled Apple Cider is the undisputed cure for the common cold in my estimation, and I love the smell of it permeating a house. I like using loose leaf tea, but I own very little and I can't find most of my tea balls. I prefer white and black teas to green teas. My favorite sweet teas are peach and vanilla. My favorite black tea is oolong, but I won't go to much effort to get it. My favorite nightcap is warm milk with either vanilla, triple sec, or ameretto. My favorite mixed drink is half Irish Mist and half Irish Creme; I call it Ambrosia. I've also combined Amaretto and Kahlua and like it a great deal. My other two favorite drinks have rude names: Sex on the Beach and Screaming Orgasm. I like White Russians, and I've even dated one. My el-cheepo drink of choice is Smirnoff, with Citrona and hard Ciders close behind. Tequila makes me drunk in really odd ways.
I've always wanted to host Afternoon Tea, but I've never had a list of people to invite who would actually care, nor do I have any of the accouterments required to do it well. I don't feel right eating Chinese or Japanese food with anything but chopsticks, and I prefer the chopsticks with the tiny points; I also happen to know that Thai food doesn't use chopsticks. I contemplate going to bartending school in my free time because I think it would be fun. I make up my own drinks and recipes just because; about 75% of the time they taste awful. I get sick if I eat too much food that is friend or heavily oiled. I prefer safflower or canola oil when I cook, but I rarely use olive oil unless it's a flavoring as well. Balsamic vinegar, cooking sherry, and lemon pepper spice are three of my cooking staples. My father created the idea of 'throw ins' (take everything you can find in the kitchen, throw it in a pot, and make dinner), but I've stopped doing them because I tended to use pasta and cheese and I no longer eat either if I can avoid it. I am incredibly easy to gross out while I'm eating, and if I'm grossed out I can't continue to eat. I like meals with courses but I can never manage to make courses when I'm cooking. I will try anything once, and possibly twice, in terms of food, but sometimes it takes me a while to finally do it. I've eaten snails, squid, deer, and frog. I want to eat horse, snake, alligator, and kangaroo. I like my fish incredibly fresh, but I can stand tuna and salmon when it's older; I live in mortal fear of fishbones. I almost always botch cooking meat. I like combining a lot of different types of flavors in a meal; on a similar note, if I have too much sweet for too long I start to feel ill. I like maple syrup on my eggs and bacon, but only if it gets there accidentally. I would try more mixed drinks if I knew where to start. I like to eat at diverse places when I go out, but I also enjoy being a regular and being recognized when I walk in the door. Every time I go to Whole Foods I notice about eight or ten fruits and vegetables I'd like to try but have no idea how to.
And now that I've utterly bored you, want to go out to dinner? 0 8)

Date: 2003-11-15 09:23 am (UTC)As for tea...a strong black tea with some clotted creme and two lumps of sugar with cucumber and butter sandwiches. Or a chai made with half and half and a dark chocolate espresso shortbread. Ooooh heaven. *sighs*
Mixed drinks are another story with me...I prefer my drinks straight. A good single malt neat is my prefered poison. Ok, I'll keep quiet now. I'm just making myself crazy. :)
