Wussie Weekend
Jul. 8th, 2003 05:17 pmI earned my wussie award for the weekend; on Saturday I was at a Blot (religious gathering of Asatruar - who are people who worship the Norse gods) getting nicely drunk when slugs showed up on the porch we were on. One of my kindred - the owner of said porch - was all set to make with the salt, but I got all concerned about the poor slug and convinced him not to. We ended up throwing them in the bushes using cardboard. I have a feeling I'll now be known as "slug girl" for the rest of my existence. I just felt so sorry for it! I mean, what an ignominious way to die!
This is a godly quote: "Most porn to me is the sexual equivalent of watching wrestling on TV." It comes from Eric Schlosser, the author of Fast Food Nation, and now Reefer Madness. There's a funny interview of him on Alternet, a new newish website I found with vague left leanings but nothing too bad. This same page also links to an interesting article on Harry Potter and why it's subversive (and no, it's not because of the magic). This also brings up the racial politics Rowling included in Harry Potter, but very quietly and near the end.
Mr. Schlosser talks about porn and pot in his most recent book. The basis of talking about both at the same time seems to be a look at the basic rights for adults to do what they want to themselves in the privacy of their own homes. (I still haven't completely resolved the suicide issue for myself; euthanasia is easier to resolve - physical pain is debilitating and exhausting both mentally and financially so the desire for death is more understandable, especially if you're dying anyway - but I do think it's silly to criminalize suicide.) I'm all for legalizing all sorts of things, including the hard core drugs. Legalize it, tax it, regulate it, and let people get around to the business of killing themselves. We'd make a mint in taxes, we could DWI and DUI people as easily for cocaine as alcohol, crime would lessen because people could no longer "make money fast" doing something illegal, it would increase open trade with South America, and all of those minor drug dealers taking up prison space could be sent home. Plus, this would free up the police to investigate things like murder and rape and burglary, you know the less important things than the "War on Drugs" which we've been loosing since the 80s.

... No words can express the horror I have seen.
And here we have ,a href="http://www.moviecliches.com/">movie cliches! You mean there are movies without these???

The secrets to a blissful marriage Now girls, remember to have sex with him when he's stressed, and keep in mind that you have compassionate love while he has sexual love. Good lord, how asinine. Oh, yes, and don't forget your thongs! Men, you see, like to peek up our demure-yet-sexy-skirts to see our asses, and since we're supposed to be submissive to them (she never does have the balls to detail that bit of advice directly) we should do what makes them feel good!

This is unconscionable. Even if having surveillance cameras in the locker rooms was acceptable (which it's not), who in their right mind saves security files on a computer without a firewall that is connected to the internet? I know their adults, but really, you don't have to be stupid about it!
MIT gave us all a gift, the Government Information Awareness webpage. It's a quid pro quo thing; they track us and we track them. Hee hee.
Yay! I have a new neat place to read things! Check out Corporate Mofo.
