Long silences

This has been an aggravating week. I think the most annoying thing was the case of hives I developed on Thursday, which kept me home (and in a Benadryl stupor) all of Friday. The hives haven't gone, but their itching and hurting have ceased somewhat, and so I'm vaguely mobile once more. I travel not without the calamine lotion, however. This explains the recent silence.

I'm going to Michigan for the week, which will explain the silence to come. I'm staying somewhere without internet access, so I expect to get a lot of crafts done! I'm leaving with my family Sunday morning, and we'll be returning either Saturday or Sunday of next weekend. In other words, if you try to contact me and can't find me, don't panic. 8) I'm alive, I'm just in a completely analog world.

Have a happy set of holidays, people! I love you all! Well, maybe not the people I don't know, but all of you that I know well I definitely love.

Sully hugs, huh? I feel honored. Now if only I knew what a Sully was. ;)

And I'm back! It's so much warmer here, it's fantastic. I'm enjoying being in lighter coats. Now I just need to find a spare second to unpack... I hope your holidays were good. 8)

Ick. What do you generally do to treat them, and what causes them? I've had kind of a sucky health week myself -- some of the more aggravating secondary symptoms of diabetes decided to manifest themselves, to my reasonable discomfort. Add that to my interest in natural medicine/homeopathy/Reiki/herbalism... yeah. Medical do-it-yourself geek. (ObDisclaimer: I do realize when I am out of my depth and need to go to a doctor.)

Benadryl always knocks me out and makes me very dozy too. Calamine is nice, but causes your clothes to stick to you. I usually try to put it on straight out of the shower, and then run around in the buff for a bit until at least I'm not sticking to everything.

Have fun in Michigan! I've never been up there; when you get back, tell us what it's like!

Hives! Yay!

I don't know what causes them, honestly; usually some sort of allergic reaction. I seem to get them randomly; my first set was three or four years ago, and huge hives that disappeared after about 36 hours. This time the hives were much, much smaller (maybe a millimeter across, as opposed to a couple of centemeters) and they lasted two to three times as long - which sucked. Thankfully, they didn't itch or hurt much on the final days, but I still have marks on me from them, so these had more staying power than the larger ones. I was pretty much a whiney mess for a couple of days, though; I was thankful for the benadryl haze because I sleep when I'm hazy, and that meant I didn't itch. Outside of that, though, I'm not sure that the benadryl did anything.

Mom recommended epsom salt baths, which I never took because my first bath was nasty and uncomfortable (I am not a good bath-er; I'm too large for the tub and I get board within seconds, which quickly leads to annoyance; my lifelong dream is to have a Japanese-style bath so I can lounge to my heart's content and not feel like I'm 300 lbs of disgustingness). Last time, though, epsom salt was wonderful.

When I get time to post (probably tonight) it'll be about my grandmother's house and Michigan. I do love it up there, but having only my grandmother puts a pall on the holidays.

Ugh on the hives! Any idea what the trigger was? Good Yule, and I hope you're having a good time in Michigan.

I wish I knew what the trigger was! Our guess is something on my cloak ([livejournal.com profile] shingan borrowed it) or too much pomegranate juice. I'll be washing the former and testing the later as time goes on.

I did have a good time. I feel horribly behind, though, so I'm scrambling to make up for a mixed week!
